Conclusion

The hypothesis was supported because of the matches smoke. The smoke and the heat lifted the glass up slightly, so the water could get in. The heat rises, so the glass rises a little bit because of the heat and smoke rising.

This experiment made us learn that heat rises up, and that can make items rise. Throughout the course of this project I have learned that heat can make things rise and make things fall. This information is important because you never know when heat is going to show up or what is going to happen.

If you add more water to the bowl will it affect the height that the water rises to.  Could certain matches or candles affect the outcome of how high the water rises. The flaws in this experiment were that we think not all of the matches lit in the first trial and sometimes the match fell down in the water too soon so you could use candles with flat bottoms so the flame would not go out as soon, you could make sure that all of the matches lit. Some other experiments that are related to this one are the magic coin heat experiment and air pressure can crusher. You could change the amount of matches used or the size of the glass. You could make a lot of different changes.
